Nissan Altima is a medium sized car produced by Nissan and is probably a continuation of Nissan Bluebird buses, which began in 1957. It has always been the largest, most powerful and most luxurious of the Nissan Sentra but less than the Nissan Maxima. Altima is available in North America and the Middle East. In other markets, Nissan sells a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana, built on the same platform used by the FF-L Nissan Altima 2002-2006.

The name "Altima" originally referred to a finishing line of the Nissan Laurel mid-size cars sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1993, Nissan Stanza suspended its widely criticized, replacing the US-made Altima, while remaining a compact car. Altima is the first of the assembly line June 15, 1992, as a model in 1993. All Altima had been built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004 when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi, plant began producing additional Altima to meet the high demand.
